External sealant

External Mastic & Silicone Sealant

External joints on the South Coast take salt air, wind-driven rain and constant expansion. The sealant, the joint width and the preparation all decide how long it lasts.

What the work involves

Movement joints in brickwork, blockwork and render are cleaned out, backed with the correct joint filler and sealed to the right depth-to-width ratio.

Cladding, panel and coping joints are sealed with products suited to the panel material and the exposure.

Failed or split external sealant is cut out completely rather than overbanded.

Problems this solves

  • Split or shrunken joints letting water in
  • Cracking where render meets a different material
  • Sealant that has failed after a few coastal winters
  • Open joints on a new build snag list

Typical applications

  • Brickwork and blockwork movement joints
  • Render, EWI and silicone-render junctions
  • Cladding, panel and rainscreen joints
  • Copings, sills, thresholds and parapets
  • Balconies, canopies and external frames

Areas covered

Portsmouth and the surrounding South Coast, including Southsea, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Waterlooville, plus Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex.
